    As a Police Recruit, you will attend and successfully complete a Police Academy to learn the proper procedures and policies in law enforcement and crime prevention. There will be a time where you will have to study various activities requiring law enforcement intervention, such as, homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, property crimes, domestic violence, narcotics-related activities, crimes by and against juveniles, and other crimes. As a Police Recruit, you will also study guidelines to present court testimony and maintain associated case files! Maintaining case files will require you to become familiar with completing forms, preparing reports, and correspondence.  

    This job will require interactions with the public and ability to handle difficult situations. Police Recruits also play a part in various community events throughout the City! This is a rewarding career with the opportunity to serve and protect your community – come join us! 

    How much money can I make?
    In the Police Recruit position, your starting salary will be $42k annually, with the opportunity for salary growth upon completion of the academy. In addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet all of our employee’s needs!

    What will I learn on the job?
    As a police recruit, you will learn techniques to evaluate situations and determine the most appropriate course of action. This will include pursuing or apprehending suspects; interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects, and other contact persons; crime scene, and evidence preservation.

    What are the qualifications for this position?
    To qualify for this position, you would need a minimum of a high school or general diploma or a combination of education and training. Applicants must be 20 years of age at the time of the written test and 21 years of age at the time of appointment. 

    Applicants must pass an initial written test and physical agility. This job is considered an Essential Personnel position and will require you to work a variety of schedules 24/7. Shifts could include, nights, weekends, holidays, and during and following natural disasters and emergency situations.
